Hailo at the interzum: Smart waste separation and organiser systems for optimum space utilisation

The family-owned company Hailo will be celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2017. Right from the start, the company with the striking red dot logo has always been characterised by a willingness to explore new approaches and to continuously work on improving quality and on coming up with innovations. Over seven decades, Hailo has gradually evolved into a global company: Today, its products “made in Hesse” are sold in more than 80 countries.

That is also why Hailo attaches particular importance to the quality label “Made in Germany”, and to retaining Germany as the location of its main production site. More than 80 per cent of the products are manufactured at the company seat in Haiger. At the interzum 2017, Hailo Built-in Technology will not only present its existing ranges but also two key innovations, or further developments: its “Laundry-Area” and the “Cargo Synchro”.

“Laundry-Area” is an extensive comprehensive system

With its practical waste separation and organiser systems, Hailo has become well-established particularly in the area of fitted kitchen accessories. A few years ago, the company also started to offer solutions for other rooms such as, for example, bathrooms or utility rooms. Its latest development is the “Laundry-Area”, a particularly extensive comprehensive system for utility rooms that will be one of Hailo’s centrepieces at the interzum. The prototype was presented for the first time in 2016 and elicited much interest. In Cologne, Hailo will now launch a retail version that has recently been improved with further additional features. Units that can be built-in offer storage space for clothing, laundry utensils, clothes peg and storage containers for other odds and ends, as well as a built-in ironing board. These features disappear behind doors, an easy way to make the room look tidy at all times.

Cargo Synchro: Synonymous with convenient waste separation

Beyond its organiser systems, Hailo will also introduce various new products and additions in the area of smart waste separation at this year’s interzum. “Cargo Synchro”, for example, a recently developed classic waste separation system for the kitchen, is characterised by optimum space utilisation and the fact that it features exceptionally smooth runners and is very comfortable to use. In addition, the company will of course also present products from the current range to showcase the entire spectrum of Hailo Built-in Technologies – simply everything that makes everyday life that little bit easier.

Laundry-Area – from compact utility room to system solution

Different rooms that merge into one another and open space living areas are a current home trend – not only due to but above all because of the phenomenon of increasingly smaller living spaces, especially in urban areas. This calls for new concepts in order to utilise the available space as efficiently as possible. Especially apartments and houses without basements or lofts call for special solutions to create space for doing and drying the laundry, such as a utility room, for example. However, utility rooms are often not particularly carefully designed and usually only include the most basic fittings, for example the washing machine and drier connections. Plus, in contrast to kitchens, ergonomic design has as yet rarely been taken into account. Hailo’s solution to this problem is the “Laundry-Area”, an outstandingly extensive comprehensive system for use in utility or laundry rooms/kitchens which ensures that the available space is utilised to the optimum, and that everything stores away tidily.

Hailo has addressed the issue of how everyday life can be made more comfortable outside of the kitchen, too, for many years. In 2015, the company presented its “Laundry-Carrier”, an in-built laundry basket for utility and laundry rooms. This ergonomic organiser system makes it easy to sort, store and transport dirty laundry. It also provides storage space for several detergent containers. The system’s two generously-sized baskets, which can be built in directly next to the washing machine, if required, offer enough storage space for two full washing machine loads.

The further development “Laundry-Area”: a comprehensive system for utility rooms

The “Laundry-Area” is the logical further development of the “Laundry Carrier” system into a comprehensive solution for tidy utility and laundry rooms/kitchens. Depending on the layout of the rooms in the home, the “Laundry-Area” can of course also be located in other rooms such as a bathroom, for example. If space is at a premium, everything that’s needed for doing the laundry could also be integrated into a tall cabinet, for example: Fittings for hanging clothing, drawers for storing and sorting laundry accessories, clothes peg and storage containers for odds and ends and also a fold away ironing board. More system components to keep everything neat and tidy can, of course, be added in larger rooms. The “Laundry-Area” is designed for units that are 60 centimetres wide and can be adjusted to suit the height of the cabinet. It is a modular concept and can therefore be customised according to the space available in the (utility) room. The flexible patented system can be extended with seven different built-in components that can be added at later points in time as required. For example, one optional extension is a fold away clothes airer for drying laundry that is attached to the side of the cabinet.

The “Laundry-Area” prototype was presented for the first time in 2016 and elicited much interest. At the interzum 2017, Hailo will present some built-in components that will be available to the retail trade – including its “Laundry-Carrier”. “Our ‘Laundry-Area’ is extremely flexible. We will continue to carefully observe the way people use our products and will then respond to this information with the development of the respective components. For us, the focus is always on the needs and requirements of the users,” says Martin Mies, Regional Manager with Hailo Built-in Technologies.

Wide range of Cargo Synchro – even more convenient clean waste separation

New, exceptionally smooth runners

The spectrum of under sink waste bins simply has to be extensive – due to the differing respectively available spaces, the preferences of the users and the legal waste separation requirements in different countries. Hailo’s two self-supporting under sink waste separation systems “Cargo soft” and “Euro Cargo-S” with removable plastic bins were a solution to this problem that is as practical as it is convenient. Hailo has now developed the system even further and will launch its new range, “Cargo Synchro”, at the interzum.

The new waste separation system is equipped with even more comfortable, synchronised runners. They run even more smoothly and are softer, quieter and more stable. “Cargo Synchro” is designed for standard European sink units from 30 to 60 centimetres wide with a side wall thickness of 16 to 19 millimetres and is self-adjusting. As the frame components are bayonet mounted and the entire system can easily be detached from the runners, it is particularly quick to install and remove. The front fittings are equipped with an eccentric adjuster for adjusting the angle and height. All metal and plastic parts are powder coated in slate grey. The covered, fully synchronised over extension runners are soft close and self-closing.

Easy and quick to fit

The side wall installation is extremely easy and therefore takes no time at all. The pull out metal or plastic system lid is fully covered by an anti-slip rubber mat, making it the perfect storage space for various utensils. And finally: “Cargo Synchro” is not only convenient but also durable. Like all Hailo systems, the innovation was subjected to our “100,000 times in-and-out” test.
